I used to eat 6 times a day (and was always hungry)


Hey Reader,

Most diet advice says eat 5-6 small meals a day to "stoke your metabolism."

I tried it for two years at 280 lbs. I was hungry all the time.

Here's what I learned later: every time you eat, even a healthy snack, your insulin goes up. When insulin is up, your body can't access stored fat. So you're hungry again two hours later, even though you have 60 lbs of fuel on your hips.

Six meals a day = insulin elevated six times a day = constant hunger.

I flipped it. Three meals, no snacks. Then 16 hours fasting overnight. Now I do mostly one meal a day and I'm rarely hungry.

The first three days were hard. Day four was easier. By week two, I'd forgotten what real hunger felt like.

That hormonal shift, plus 6 other hacks, took me from 280 to 200. Ten years ago. Still here.
